Learner drivers can't tow, and P1 drivers can tow small trailers up to 250kg unloaded. Every driver must stay within their vehicle's towing limits. Check the NSW Government towing rules for your situation.
-
The loaded trailer can't weigh more than the lowest of your towbar rating, your vehicle's maximum towing capacity, the trailer's carrying capacity and the tyres' rated capacity. About 5 to 10% of the loaded weight should sit on the towbar. Source: NSW Government.
-
In NSW it depends on the trailer's gross mass. Up to 750kg, brakes aren't required. From 751kg to 2000kg, brakes are needed on at least one axle. Over 2000kg, brakes are needed on all wheels, plus an automatic breakaway system. Sources: NSW Government and RACQ guide to trailer brakes. Ask our team what each trailer in our range has.
-
ATM (aggregate trailer mass) is the trailer's total weight when fully loaded. GTM (gross trailer mass) is the weight carried by the trailer's axles when it's hooked up, which is the ATM minus the weight on the towbar.
